
Pune: In yet another shocking incident following the Swargate sexual assault case, a cab driver was arrested for performing an obscene act in front of a woman software engineer. The incident took place in the Kalyani Nagar area when the woman had booked a cab for her journey home.
Incident Details
The woman, an IT professional, had booked a cab from her office in Kalyani Nagar. The cab arrived at Sangamwadi Road to pick her up. As soon as the ride started, the driver adjusted the rearview mirror to face the passenger.
While driving, he began engaging in an obscene act while watching the woman through the mirror and making inappropriate gestures. The shocked woman demanded that the driver stop the vehicle immediately. Instead of complying, he continued driving until he reached a highway, where he eventually pulled over and fled the scene.
The terrified woman immediately reached the nearest police station and lodged a complaint. Based on cab booking details, vehicle registration number, the police swiftly traced the cab owner and arrested the accused driver, Sumit Kumar.
The accused hails from Uttar Pradesh. He had recently relocated to Pimpri-Chinchwad. A case has been officially registered, confirmed Assistant Police Inspector Chormole.
This incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of women in Pune, especially in public transportation services. Authorities are urging stricter background verification for cab drivers and stronger security measures to ensure passenger safety.
