Pune: In a groundbreaking demonstration at the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF), a one-minute short film was created entirely using Artificial Intelligence (AI), without the need for actors, cameras, or traditional filmmaking tools.
The short film, titled "Chai & Secrets", depicted a conversation between two elderly friends discussing long-held secrets. Spanish filmmaker Paco Torres, who conducted the "Cinema and the Use of Artificial Intelligence" workshop at PIFF, showcased how AI is transforming the filmmaking landscape.
"With AI, a film can be created without actors, music composers, voice artists, or even a camera," said Torres. He demonstrated the AI-powered filmmaking process live during the workshop.
Torres emphasized that AI is not meant to replace human creativity but to assist it. "Technology can speed up the creative process, but the final artistic decisions will always be made by humans," he stated. He also highlighted AI’s growing role in generating scripts, music, subtitles, and even program codes for films.
Addressing concerns about AI’s impact on the film industry, Torres reassured that AI would not replace filmmakers but enhance their capabilities, allowing for faster, more efficient, and innovative storytelling.
PIFF attendees witnessed firsthand how AI can revolutionize traditional filmmaking methods, marking a significant shift in how films may be produced in the future.
