On Saturday, the satirical political group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) released a clarification refuting a post on X that alleged its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, had requested “VIP treatment” upon arriving in Delhi for the scheduled protest at Jantar Mantar.
Dipke came to Delhi from the United States to spearhead the CJP protest over alleged irregularities in the education system. A post on X alleged that he engaged in a prolonged argument with GMR officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), insisting on VIP treatment. It further claimed that Dipke demanded a car be brought inside the airport premises and refused to leave until this was done.
Fake news, says CJP
The CJP’s official X account dismissed the claim as fake news, stating that Dipke had not requested any such VIP treatment. We denounce these efforts to undermine and malign our movement," one section of the post stated. "This is why CJP’s manifesto called for the cancellation of licenses belonging to such purveyors of fake news!" it continued.
The Jantar Mantar protest
On Saturday, Abhijeet Dipke took part in a scheduled protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where he openly demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in light of the NEET-UG paper leak allegations and reported irregularities in the OSM evaluation system for CBSE Class 12 examination papers.
The planned protest took place under tight security. Hundreds of participants, predominantly young people, joined the demonstration, many of them wearing cockroach masks and carrying flowers. Schoolchildren were also present at the protest, accompanied by their parents.
Dipke arrived at Delhi’s IGI airport this morning on a flight from the United States. In his initial comments after landing, he noted that five students had taken their own lives. The education minister should step down. Five students have taken their own lives," Dipke stated at the airport arrivals gate, holding up a biography of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
At the Jantar Mantar protest, the majority of the participants were a mix of school and college students, along with young professionals.
Scores of students gathered at the venue, chanting slogans and demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Abhijeet Dipke had urged supporters to maintain discipline and ensure that the protest remains peaceful.
Ahead of the protest, the CJP distributed guidelines calling on participants to remain non-violent and steer clear of clashes. Dipke’s most recent appeal restated these directions, stressing the importance of treating law enforcement officers with respect throughout the demonstration.
