
Pune: COEP Technological University has proposed a significant increase in undergraduate intake across multiple engineering disciplines. The move aims to address growing demand and align with evolving industry needs.
The university’s proposal to double the number of seats in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Engineering has been submitted to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Approval for this proposal is anticipated shortly.
Speaking at a press conference, Vinayak Pai, Chairman of the Regulatory Board, stated that this initiative reflects the university’s commitment to providing enhanced learning opportunities. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sunil Bhirud and Registrar Dr. Dayanand Sonawane were also present at the event.
Expansion of Academic Offerings
The academic year 2025-26 will also see the launch of new undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Specialized courses such as AI in Signal Processing, AI in Healthcare, AI and Robotics, Intelligent Communication Systems, and Material Process Technology will also be introduced.
In addition, a multidisciplinary MSc program in Applied Psychology with an intake of 30 students will be available. Dr. Bhirud highlighted that the university plans to collaborate with renowned institutions and industries to offer multidisciplinary programs in areas such as Quantum Computing, Energy Management, Environmental Sustainability, and more.
Operationalization of Chikhali’s Center of Excellence
A Center of Excellence spanning 28 acres in Chikhali is slated to begin operations by February 2025. The center will provide cutting-edge research and innovation facilities for students and entrepreneurs. With a sanctioned budget of ₹150 crore, ₹60 crore has already been allocated for the project, Pai shared.
Ph.D. Programs for Professionals
From 2025-26, working professionals will have the opportunity to enroll in Ph.D. programs at the university. This initiative aims to foster industry-academia collaboration and provide professionals with avenues to enhance their academic and research credentials.
