Pune: A Jaipur-based doctor, Mohit Mukesh Nagar (41), has been booked for defrauding a renowned Pune doctor and his friend of ₹1.71 crore by luring them into cryptocurrency investments.
When the victims demanded their money back, Nagar allegedly threatened to kill them. Investigations have further revealed that Nagar has pending extortion and rape cases in Jaipur.
The complainant, a 54-year-old doctor from Baner, is a well-known medical professional and the founder of a Skin Clinic, with six registered patents. He first met Nagar in 2019 through a mutual friend in Jaipur, where both had studied at SMS Medical College.
Over the years, the two developed a close friendship, and Nagar frequently visited Pune. In 2021-22, Nagar sought skin tightening and anti-aging treatments from the complainant, who treated him between 2022 and 2024.
During this period, Nagar introduced cryptocurrency investment opportunities to the complainant, claiming he could generate significant returns. The complainant initially invested ₹10 lakh in August 2022, and Nagar later claimed that the investment had grown to ₹25 lakh, convincing him to invest more.
Encouraged by these claims, the complainant introduced his friend, Joseph, to Nagar, who invested ₹1.49 crore from September 1, 2024, onwards.
Once Nagar’s skin treatments were completed, the complainant presented a medical bill of ₹2 lakh. However, Nagar claimed that he had reinvested the money in cryptocurrency and promised to return the entire amount soon.
When the complainant repeatedly demanded repayment, Nagar refused, issued death threats, and verbally abused him. He allegedly said, "I will not return your or your friend’s money. Do whatever you want." Furthermore, he referenced another alleged victim stating, "You saw what happened to him, and I will do the same to you."
Following the complaint, Chatuhshrungi Police Station registered a case against Nagar. Investigations further revealed that Nagar has pending cases of extortion and rape in Jaipur. The case is currently under investigation, led by Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Karande.
