PUNE, 16 August 2025: The cyber police in Pimpri Chinchwad have booked four employees of a Hinjewadi-based IT company for allegedly stealing confidential data and causing losses of nearly ₹82 crore. The fraud is believed to have taken place between April 2024 and August 2025.
According to police officials, the accused, including one woman, allegedly stole the company’s source codes and software solutions. They then set up their own firm and used the stolen material to develop more than 100 websites, generating revenue illegally.
A complaint in the matter was filed by a representative of the affected IT firm on Wednesday. The company has claimed that the theft and misuse of its intellectual property directly impacted its business and led to huge financial losses.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Cyber police officials said investigations are underway to assess the full scale of the fraud and to check whether others were involved. The accused are yet to be taken into custody.
This case has once again underlined the growing challenges faced by IT firms in Pune and elsewhere in protecting sensitive intellectual property and tackling insider threats at a time when cyber fraud is on the rise.
