Pune, 4th October 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted Pune and other districts in Maharashtra about Cyclone 'Shakti' developing in the Arabian Sea. The cyclone is anticipated to cause heavy rain, strong winds, and turbulent sea conditions in the state over the next few days. Despite being inland, Pune might face heavy rainfall and waterlogging as a result of the storm's impact.
Coastal regions such as Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are under a high to moderate alert, with winds expected to reach 45-55 kmph and gusts up to 65 kmph. According to IMD officials, wind speeds and rainfall might increase based on the cyclone's progression, potentially impacting Pune and nearby areas.
Intense to extremely intense rainfall is anticipated throughout interior Maharashtra, encompassing Pune, Marathwada, and East Vidarbha. The continuous downpours might result in waterlogging, road blockages, and possible harm to crops in the area.
