Pune: Strengthening its commitment to women’s safety, Alleima India has launched a public awareness campaign under the Damini Sakhi program in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The initiative includes a bus advertisement campaign ensuring emergency helpline numbers are visible on public transport, making them easily accessible for women in distress.

With thousands of women relying on public transport daily, the initiative aims to provide immediate assistance resources in case of emergencies. As part of the campaign, large purple emergency contact signs will be displayed on multiple buses in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area.

The initiative is part of a larger safety program launched in October 2024, in collaboration with Hope for the Children Foundation (HFCF), local law enforcement, and government stakeholders. The campaign operates under the leadership of Sonal Patil, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in partnership with:

  • Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate

  • Hope for the Children Foundation (HFCF)

  • Alleima India

Strengthening Surveillance and Community Trust
A network of 25 high-resolution CCTV cameras is being installed across PCMC as part of Alleima’s CSR initiative to improve women’s safety and security. These cameras will be placed at identified crime hotspots, monitored by police inspectors, sub-inspectors, and detective branches to enhance response times and strengthen security measures.

Additionally, the Damini Pathak officers, a dedicated women’s safety unit under Pune Police, have been trained to patrol public areas, provide immediate assistance to women, and conduct educational workshops.

Caroline Audoir de Valter, Founder & CEO of Hope for the Children Foundation, emphasized the importance of the initiative: "The recent incidents in Pune highlight the urgent need to improve women’s safety. I am grateful to Alleima India for supporting this initiative, which helps women feel safer while traveling. When women feel secure, they can empower the next generation, shaping a safer and stronger future for all."

  • Key Achievements of the Damini Sakhi Program
Since its launch, the initiative has achieved significant milestones in prevention, training, and awareness:

  • 715 women trained in self-defense techniques

  • 1,570 individuals participated in women’s rights and safety awareness sessions

  • 3-4 lakh people indirectly reached through the Purple Ribbon Campaign at Alandi Yatra

  • 365 law enforcement officers trained in women’s safety protocols

  • 13,500 IEC materials distributed to spread awareness

"The goal of this campaign is to increase awareness and encourage action by making helpline numbers more visible on public transport. Moving forward, we aim to integrate technology-driven solutions that allow for faster responses. Strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the community is key to ensuring a future where women feel truly safe," said Saipriya Paranjape, Marketing Manager & CSR Business Unit Tube APAC.
