One day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the phrase "dimagi Naxals," a satirical political group inspired by the term has appeared, attracting support from people on the internet.
An Instagram account titled "Dimagi Naxal Party" has emerged and amassed more than 181,000 followers in a single night. The group also operates an X account called "Dimagi Naxal Janta Party," which has attracted over 7,000 followers..
As stated in the party’s biographies on Instagram and X, its slogan is “Think | Research | Resist.” The Instagram bio identifies the party’s founder as “A Dimagi Indian,” and describes the co-founder as a person with “56 Inch ka.”
Although the precise creation date of the Instagram account is unknown, the party’s X profile was established in August 2026..
On Monday, the party further claimed that its Instagram account had been targeted by cyberattacks. "A cyber attack has begun against @DNJP_India on Instagram. Let’s see if they manage to silence our voices!" it posted on X.
What is the party's ideology?
Posts on the party’s Instagram and X accounts state that it adheres to the ideology of Bhagat Singh..
In one post, the party stated: "We are followers of Bhagat Singh... If THEY attempt to suspend our accounts or brand us as anti-nationals, understand that they are insulting Bhagat Singh.".”
What led to DNP?
The decision follows Prime Minister Modi’s Independence Day address, in which he cautioned the nation about what he termed “dimagi Naxals” (intellectual Naxals). He stated that although the government has prevailed over armed Maoist groups, individuals who support their ideology continue to seek chances to sway and “brainwash” young people. He urged that such “dimagi Naxals” be identified and isolated.
He stated on Saturday that Left Wing Extremism had ruined the prospects of hundreds of thousands of young people, and that Naxal violence and its ideology had taken away the children of countless mothers. For many decades, this Naxal violence had dominated vast regions of the country through the power of the gun. His remarks prompted strong backlash from Opposition parties, with the Congress describing the new terminology as a clear indication of desperation.
Ramesh wrote on X that the prime minister first labelled his opponents as ‘urban naxals’ and now calls them ‘dimaagi Naxals’, which he described as a clear indication of the PM’s desperation. He added that the prime minister often eventually embraces the very policies proposed by those he attacks. Ramesh further remarked that it is no coincidence the PM holds an MA as the ‘Master Abuser’ in Entire Political Science.
Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram stated, "I am proud to be an intellectual Naxal."".
Saurav Das of the Cockroach Janta Party also responded to the prime minister, dismissing his labeling of critical youth. Posting on X, he wrote, “Calling us ‘Dimagi Naxal’ or anything similar will not work, Prime Minister. How can you casually brand educated young people as ‘Naxalis’ and the like, simply because they question your government? This is pure arrogance and a clear failure to address their issues.”
Responding to Opposition criticism, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju targeted opposition parties, asserting that the Prime Minister did not describe opposition leaders as 'dimagi naxal' or individuals with a Naxal mindset..
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not refer to opposition leaders as 'mental Naxals.' The term applies only to the following: 1) Those who support Maoists and reject the Indian Constitution; 2) Those who align with separatists and back Article 370; 3) Those who advocate cutting the 'chicken neck' to detach the North-East from India, Rijiju wrote on X..
