Pune: The Divisional Commissioner has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to appoint officials in Phursungi and Uruli Devachi villages to ensure that civic services are provided locally.
This comes as the villages transition into a separate municipal council, a process expected to take several months. Until the full transfer of responsibilities is completed, PMC will continue to manage daily services in these areas as per government orders.
During a meeting held on Friday (December 6) at the Divisional Commissioner’s office, it was noted that residents currently need to travel to the Hadapsar ward office or the main PMC building to access services.
To address these inconveniences, the Divisional Commissioner instructed PMC to establish local offices in the villages and transfer the necessary documentation and responsibilities to the newly appointed town council administrators.
Framework for Municipal Council Management to Be Finalized
The state government has formed a special committee to oversee the phased transfer of civic services. This committee has been tasked with preparing and submitting an action plan for the transition. However, the committee had not convened any meetings until recently.
The Divisional Commissioner emphasized the need for urgency, instructing PMC to streamline operations and ensure that villagers can access essential services within their localities.
Water Supply Issues Dominate Complaints
Residents of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi have also voiced concerns about persistent water shortages, which intensified during the election season. Many depend on tanker water supply, and villagers demanded immediate solutions during the meeting.
The Divisional Commissioner directed PMC’s water supply department to stabilize and improve water distribution in the area. Instructions were also issued to maintain the current level of tanker water supply without any reductions.
