Pune, 16 August 2025: Pune continues to witness a worrying rise in road accidents, with speeding trucks and heavy vehicles often crashing into smaller vehicles, leaving two-wheeler riders particularly vulnerable. Adding to this concern, cases of drunk driving have also increased across the city.
In a recent incident, the official vehicle of Pune Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Himmat Jadhav was hit by a car driven under the influence of alcohol. The accident took place on Friday night near Keshav Nagar, around 10:30 p.m.
The impact of the collision caused heavy damage to the DCP’s car. Fortunately, there was no major casualty, though Jadhav’s daughter received minor injuries.
Following the crash, Mundhwa Police registered a case of drunk driving and arrested two individuals involved in the incident. Both have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
The incident highlights the growing threat of reckless and drunk driving in Pune, which continues to put road users at risk despite repeated awareness campaigns and enforcement drives.
