Pune, 28 August 2025: The much-anticipated launch of e-bike taxi services in Pune and Mumbai will take longer than expected. Four companies had applied for aggregator licenses to start operations, but their proposals were found to have multiple errors. The state transport department has rejected these applications and directed the firms to send revised proposals.
Officials explained that once fresh proposals are submitted, the documents will undergo detailed scrutiny. Only after verification will the applications be forwarded to the State Transport Authority for final approval. Aggregator licenses will be issued only after this process, further pushing back the start of services.
Fare structures will not be uniform across cities. In Pune, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) will first study income, operational costs, and other factors to suggest a per-kilometer rate. This proposal will then be placed before the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) for discussion and approval. The same process will be followed separately in other cities.
Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar said that while companies are keen to introduce e-bike taxis, their initial proposals contained errors. They have been asked to resubmit applications, and only after that will the state move ahead.
