A video featuring an Indian Railways First AC cabin styled like a lavish honeymoon suite has gone viral on social media, sparking a wave of mixed reactions from users across the internet.
The video, widely circulated on X and other social media platforms, shows a private First AC coach completely decorated with balloons, floral hangings, candles, elaborate flower displays, and thousands of rose petals. An “I Love You” sign inside the cabin further enhances the romantic setting, making it look more like a hotel honeymoon suite than a train compartment.
Online posts claim that a passenger set up the decorations as a surprise for their spouse to mark a wedding or anniversary during the train trip.
Social media users share hilarious reactions
The unusual makeover quickly caught the attention of internet users, who flooded social media with both praise and criticism. Many people praised the effort put into the surprise, calling it a thoughtful and unforgettable way to mark a special occasion while on a journey. Some users jokingly dubbed the train the 'Suhagraat Express,' remarking that the First AC cabin resembled a honeymoon suite more than a typical railway compartment.
Others admired the creativity involved in transforming the compact cabin into a romantic setting, with some calling it one of the most unique travel surprises they had seen.
Questions raised over railway rules and permissions
Although many were moved by the romantic gesture, the video also raised questions about compliance with railway rules and the safety of passengers. Numerous social media users raised doubts about whether private decorators are permitted to access railway stations and train coaches to create such extensive setups. Some also questioned whether the necessary authorization from railway officials had been secured before the cabin was decorated.
Some users also raised questions about the presence of decorative items like candles, flowers, and balloons on a moving train, wondering whether they meet railway safety regulations.
Debate reaches railway authorities
The viral clip prompted several users to tag Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking clarification on whether such decorations are officially permitted inside Indian Railways coaches.
Many demanded greater transparency regarding the rules governing private celebrations onboard premium train compartments and whether similar requests are allowed for other passengers.
The discussion has also revived a broader conversation about the growing commercialisation of premium railway services, with opinions divided over how far personalised experiences should be allowed within public transport.
After the video went viral on social media, railway authorities told The Free Press Journal that the incident happened on Train No. 11002 Balharshah–Mumbai Nandigram Express on July 6 when a couple named Shubham and Sonali had booked a G Coupe (Berth Nos. 19 and 20) from Jalna to Mumbai, with boarding at Chatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to railway officials, the passengers had independently engaged Jalna-based Rahat Decorator through an online platform to decorate the coupe. Accordingly, a representative of the decorator boarded the First AC coach and carried out the decoration of the coupe.
The railway authorities stated that the decorator’s entry into the coach was unauthorized and represented a serious breach. Treating the incident with gravity, the on-duty staff member, Girish Kumar, Chief Ticketing Inspector at Nanded, was immediately suspended from duty.
A comprehensive internal investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the incident, identify those responsible, and decide on any further action required.
