Key Developments and Announcements

During the inaugural session, Dr. Samir V Kamat, Chairman, DRDO, revealed that DRDO is currently developing Radiation Absorbent Materials (RAM)—a specialized composite designed to meet the stealth requirements of the upcoming 5th-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). He also highlighted how composite materials have significantly improved the Tejas fighter aircraft and contributed to extended missile range in recent defense projects.

Technical Discussions and Keynote Addresses

The conference featured keynote speeches from industry leaders, including:

  • Shekhar Sardessai, Managing Director, Kineco Limited

  • Shripad Tokekar, Dassault Systèmes

Additionally, Cmdr Amit Ray from DND (SDG), Indian Navy, delivered an insightful presentation on the role of composites in naval applications. He highlighted the successful indigenous development of sonar domes and emphasized that future naval warships will be lighter, faster, and stealthier, with composites playing a key role. He also stressed the need for high-strength materials that are transparent to sonar to ensure superior acoustic performance.
