Pune: Doctors at Mhaske Hospital in Hadapsar, successfully removed a gallbladder stent left inside a 73-year-old patient for two years.
The patient, who had undergone a government hospital procedure earlier, was supposed to have the stent removed within six weeks but had failed to return for follow-up.
The patient had been experiencing abdominal pain, jaundice, and fever for a prolonged period. Upon investigation through an X-ray, the stent was discovered in his gallbladder.
Two years ago, the patient had undergone an Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedure during which the stent was placed to drain bile.
As his condition worsened, the patient sought treatment from Dr. Chetan Mhaske. A minimally invasive surgery was performed to remove the stent and two large gallstones.
The surgical team included Dr. Anup Kamble, anesthetist Dr. Nagnath Mastud, and Dr. Vitthal Shendge. The patient made a complete recovery following the procedure.
Dr. Mhaskhe highlighted the importance of following up with doctors. “Despite clear instructions and written notes, some patients fail to return for follow-up, leading to complications. Patients must strictly adhere to medical advice to avoid such issues,” he said.
