Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is facing delays in commencing the second phase of the Ganeshkhind Road widening project due to incomplete land acquisitions. While the first phase, spanning one kilometer, is in its final stages, only 10 of the 51 properties required for the second phase have been acquired.
The Ganeshkhind Road widening project is part of a broader initiative to address traffic congestion in Pune. Alongside this, a multi-level flyover is being constructed between the Savitribai Phule Pune University entrance (Acharya Anand Rishiji Maharaj Chowk) and Range Hills Corner. Additionally, metro construction is progressing rapidly on the same route.
Progress in the First Phase
The first phase of the road widening project has reached its final stages, with most of the work completed. The only exception is land belonging to the Reserve Bank of India’s Agricultural College, which is yet to be acquired.
Challenges in the Second Phase
The second phase covers a two-kilometer stretch between the Agricultural College and Sancheti Hospital and from Shivajinagar to Dhotre Path. Out of 51 properties affected by this phase, only 10 have been handed over to the PMC. The remaining properties include land owned by central and state government institutions such as All India Radio, the Agricultural College, and the India Meteorological Department.
To expedite the process, the PMC’s Property Department has sent initial proposals to the concerned institutions. A senior official confirmed that final proposals are being prepared to secure the remaining land.
Budget Allocation for Phase Two
The PMC has already allocated ₹20 crore for the second phase of the project. However, the work can only begin once all the required land has been acquired.
