Hadapsar: Social Media Status Dispute Leads to Machete Attack in Sayyadnagar

Pune: In a shocking incident in Hadapsar area, a youth was attacked with a machete over a dispute arising from a social media status.

The incident occurred on the night of December 4 in Lane 28 of Sayyadnagar, where a group of individuals also brandished machetes to instill fear in the neighborhood.

The Kalepadal Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case, while a complaint has been registered against five suspects:

  • Arif alias Talim Asmahmad (23)

  • Sahil Khan (20)

  • Tappu Khan (19)

  • Ayan Arif Sheikh (19)

  • Ghulam Gaus Khan (22)

The complainant, Samir Iqbal Sheikh (19), reported that he was standing with his friends Irfan Sheikh, Aslam, and Fardeen in the Sayyadnagar area when the accused confronted him.

The accused questioned Samir about a social media post that allegedly included an offensive caption, "You are a dog." The confrontation quickly escalated into violence, with the accused attacking Samir with a machete and severely beating him.

Following the attack, the group brandished machetes in the vicinity, causing panic among the residents. The neighborhood was left in shock and fear after the incident.

Subsequently, the police apprehended two absconding suspects, Ghulam Gaus Khan and Ayan Arif Sheikh. The case is currently being investigated by Assistant Inspector Amit Shete under the supervision of Senior Inspector Mansingh Patil.
