Bengaluru, August 12: Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reignited speculation about Hardik Pandya’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after posting a clip of the Mumbai Indians all-rounder imitating KKR spinner Varun Chakaravarthy during an intense workout session at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The humorous video has gone viral on social media, with fans enjoying Hardik’s playful side.
The viral video captures Varun lifting weights in the gym as Hardik Pandya walks past behind him. Noticing that Varun is filming his workout, Hardik begins imitating his movements, copying the way Varun is lifting the weights. He repeats the act a few times, laughs, and then walks away.
The episode was merely a playful exchange between the two cricketers, but internet users began speculating that KKR had hinted at a trade being finalized with the Mumbai Indians involving Hardik. Fans swiftly responded to the post, suggesting that such a move could happen and that a so-called "Purple Pandya" might be captaining KKR in the IPL 2027 season.
However, these remain merely rumours and speculation, with no official confirmation from any IPL franchise regarding Hardik Pandya’s transfer. Even the Mumbai Indians have not stated that they intend to release him. A move can only happen if Mumbai Indians decide to let the Indian all-rounder go.
KKR are reportedly seeking a more robust leadership option after Ajinkya Rahane captained the team during the IPL 2026 season. In their 2026 squad, the franchise had designated Rahane as captain and Rinku Singh as vice-captain.For KKR supporters, the workout video has already sparked fresh speculation: might Hardik Pandya be donning the purple and gold next season?
