Pune: The Swargate bus stand rape case continues to spark widespread outrage as protests escalate in Pune. Social activist Trupti Desai was detained by the police on Monday after she attempted to confront Maharashtra’s Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, over the lack of arrests in the case. The incident occurred during Minister Kadam’s visit to the Swargate bus depot, which has been under tight security since the crime was reported.
As Minister Yogesh Kadam arrived at Swargate to review the security situation, Trupti Desai and her supporters from the Bhumata Brigade staged a protest. Raising slogans against the state government and police, Desai attempted to rush toward the minister's vehicle, demanding answers.
The sudden escalation led to a commotion at the bus depot, prompting police to quickly detain Desai to restore order. Both Minister Kadam and Pune Police Commissioner left the depot without addressing the media, stating that an official press briefing would be held later at the Commissioner’s office.
Despite the Swargate rape case gaining national attention, 48 hours have passed without the arrest of the accused, leading to widespread public dissatisfaction. Trupti Desai's protest was aimed at questioning why law enforcement had failed to apprehend the accused, despite assurances of swift action. As she charged toward Minister Kadam’s vehicle, police officers intervened and detained her immediately.
With statewide anger mounting, the incident at Swargate only adds fuel to the growing demand for justice. The police and state government are now under immense pressure to take immediate action, as protests and political reactions continue to intensify.
