A 26-year-old police constable was discovered dead in the restroom of a police station in L B Nagar, Hyderabad, Telangana, in the early hours of Wednesday. According to police, initial findings suggest it was a case of suicide, though his family members have alleged foul play.
The constable, assigned to electronic computerised operations for police services (e-COPS) and working night shifts, was discovered dead in the restroom of the L B Nagar assistant commissioner of police (ACP) office at approximately 2.30 am.
A senior officer from the L B Nagar police station said that other police personnel who saw him at once took him to the nearby Kamineni Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
According to police, the deceased was a resident of Bandalemuru village in Manchal mandal of Ranga Reddy district and had been living in a room with his friends in Karmanghat, located about one kilometre from the police station.
He was known to be a reserved individual, and there were no signs that the deceased was under any kind of stress. Investigations further showed that he had no family-related issues. He reported for duty on Tuesday as usual and did not voice any complaints, the police officer said. His body was taken to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and a case was filed at the L B Nagar police station.
Tension mounted outside the L B Nagar police station on Wednesday as family members and villagers held a protest.“There were bloodstains in the rest room where he was found hanging. We want an explanation from the police what exactly led to the death of my son,” he demanded.
A substantial contingent of police officers was stationed there to restore order. L B Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anuradha visited the police station and conducted inquiries into the possible reasons behind the constable’s death.
Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy, the representative of the constituency, arrived at the L B Nagar police station and met with the grieving family.
