Pune: The Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, in collaboration with the Indian Society for Hydraulics (ISH), is set to host the 29th International Conference on Hydraulics, Water Resources, River, and Coastal Engineering (Hydro 2024) from December 18 to 20, 2024.

The event aims to explore innovative solutions for sustainable water resource management, hydropower development, and climate-adaptive strategies.

During a press briefing, Dr. R. S. Kankara, Director of CWPRS, along with Additional Directors Dr. Prabhat Chandra and Dr. R. G. Patil, outlined the vision and objectives of the event. Dr. Kankara emphasized CWPRS's commitment to leveraging advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance research outcomes in the water, power, and coastal sectors.

He also highlighted plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for dam safety, focusing on providing comprehensive, sustainable solutions aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Established in 1916, CWPRS is India’s premier hydraulic research institute, serving national and international projects in water resources, power, and coastal engineering. Over its century-long history, the institute has played a pivotal role in advancing hydraulic research and supporting major national infrastructure initiatives. CWPRS has also contributed to projects in neighboring countries, the Middle East, and Africa.

Conference Highlights

Dr. Prabhat Chandra underscored the importance of Hydro 2024 as a platform for fostering collaboration among experts, scholars, academicians, and industry leaders. The conference will feature:
