India’s IP Landscape Expands, 75000 Patents in Process, 25 Per Cent Growth Noted

Pune: The second National Intellectual Property (IP) Yatra was inaugurated by the AIC Pinnacle Entrepreneurship Forum in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India. The event aims to provide a platform for innovative entrepreneurs to connect with real-world industries and accelerate intellectual property commercialization.

Ashish Prabhat, Deputy Controller of Patents and Designs, Government of India, highlighted the complex journey from a startup to an established business and the importance of patent and design certification for smooth commercialization. He shared that, “Over the past year, our department has reached over 1 million young innovators. The patent process is now completed within six months, and currently, 75,000 patent applications are under review. There has been a 25% increase in patent and design filings, which is a positive sign.”

Abhay Daftardar, Assistant Director at the MSME Ministry, emphasized the importance of fostering a conducive ecosystem for entrepreneurs. "Startups need structured guidance, financial support, and intellectual property protection to successfully commercialize their innovations," he stated. The IP Yatra will provide insights on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial design registrations to help entrepreneurs safeguard their ideas.

  • Arihant Mehta (Pinnacle Industries) emphasized the role of IP protection in new-age markets.

The event was moderated by Poonam Nahar and included an introductory session by AIC Pinnacle CEO Sunil Dhadiwal.
