Pune: A shocking case has emerged from the Ramtekdi burial ground, where the body of an infant, buried last week, has mysteriously disappeared. The incident has once again brought security concerns at crematoriums and burial grounds to the forefront. Following the discovery, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) lodged a formal complaint at Wanawadi Police Station.

The burial ground, located near the Ramtekdi Industrial Estate, had been the final resting place of a one-day-old infant. However, on Wednesday (March 6), it was observed that the burial site had been disturbed. Upon further inspection, officials confirmed that the infant’s body was missing under suspicious circumstances, causing an uproar.

Following the revelation, PMC security officials conducted an on-site inspection. Wanawadi Police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by the deceased infant’s family.

Previous Incident Raises Further Alarm

This is not the first security lapse at Pune’s cremation and burial sites. A few months ago, a half-burnt body part was discovered at Vaikunth Crematorium, which later turned out to be a piece of bread. That incident had already sparked concerns over hygiene, mismanagement, and security at such facilities. The current case at Ramtekdi has only intensified these concerns.

The incident has drawn criticism from political leaders. Prashant Jagtap, city president of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), visited the site and strongly criticized the municipal administration. He stated, "This is a serious failure of the municipal corporation. Security has been completely ignored. The administration must take responsibility and apologize to the grieving family and the citizens of Pune."

Meanwhile, PMC Security Officer Rakesh Vitkar assured that the case is being thoroughly investigated. "The disappearance of an infant’s body from the burial ground has been reported. An immediate complaint was filed at Wanawadi Police Station. Security guards and CCTV cameras are in place, and police are actively investigating the incident," he stated.
