Born on July 19, 1938, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Jayant Narlikar was a prodigious student who went on to become a global authority in astrophysics and cosmology. He completed his undergraduate studies at Banaras Hindu University and later earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, working under the legendary cosmologist Fred Hoyle.
Narlikar’s career was marked by groundbreaking research, particularly in the field of cosmology. He is best known for the Hoyle–Narlikar theory of gravity, which provided an alternative to the Big Bang theory and opened new avenues in the study of the universe’s origins.
