The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main April 2025 session has come under intense scrutiny after students and subject experts identified at least nine glaring errors across the physics, chemistry, and mathematics papers. The controversy erupted following the release of the provisional answer keys and response sheets on April 11, with students from Kota.
Among the disputed questions, four belong to physics, three to chemistry, and two to mathematics. Experts have confirmed that these are not mere ambiguities but outright factual errors that could significantly impact the scores of lakhs of aspirants nationwide. For instance, a physics question on hydrogen-like ions incorrectly assumes an atomic number of 2 instead of 3, while another on current electricity lists 125mA as the correct answer instead of 5mA. Additionally, a question on equivalent resistance reportedly has no correct option at all.
The situation is further aggravated by reports of errors in the response sheets shared by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Many students and parents have complained that the recorded answers do not match what candidates actually marked during the exam, with some response sheets showing blank or incorrect answers. This has led to fears of unfair scoring and jeopardized futures.
Leading educators and coaching institutes have backed the students’ claims, criticizing the NTA’s quality control and transparency. Social media has seen a surge of outrage, with calls for the agency to either award bonus marks or discard the flawed questions altogether. Despite multiple complaints, the NTA has yet to issue a formal response, deepening concerns about its credibility.
This controversy follows a series of recent issues faced by the NTA, including glitches in CUET-UG 2024 and errors in NEET UG answer keys, intensifying demands for regulatory reforms in India’s examination system.
