Pune - Pune Municipal Corporation has advertised for 113 posts of Junior Engineer (Civil) and as many as 28,700 people have applied for it. The recruitment process was postponed to include 10 percent Maratha reservation.
Even though the Backward Classes Department has prepared the point regulations, the process is still stalled. If the municipal administration does not complete the process quickly, there is a possibility that this recruitment will again fall under the code of conduct for the municipal elections.
Pune Municipal Corporation recruited a total of 748 posts in 2022 and 2023. This included junior engineers, clerks, firemen, and some important posts in the health department. After that, the recruitment process for 113 posts was started.
Applications were invited for this in the month of March 2024 through the organization 'IBPS'. During this period, the state government fixed 10 percent reservation for the Maratha community in government job recruitment.
Therefore, the process was started to include this reservation. The Backward Classes Department of the Municipal Corporation worked on it for about four to five months.
After that, this proposal has been sent to the government's Backward Classes Committee. After its approval, the candidates who have applied from the open category will be given the opportunity to apply from the Maratha reservation. And after that, exams will be conducted.
The recruitment of 113 posts was got delayed due the code of conduct of the Lok Sabha elections, after which the code of conduct of the Legislative Assembly came into effect, and the recruitment process was stalled again during that period. Now the chaos of the municipal elections has begun. In the coming period, ward formation and other works will gain momentum. Municipal employees will be busy in that.
Also, the exam will not be able to be held after the code of conduct is in place. Therefore, it is necessary to finalize the list of candidates, provide reservation options to the candidates and conduct the online written exam soon. Otherwise, this process will be stuck in the code of conduct for the third time.
The proposal regarding the recruitment of junior engineers has been submitted to the Commissioner. Efforts are being made to complete this process at the earliest.
