Pune: Public anger over the brutal murder of Beed’s sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and the custodial death of Somnath Suryawanshi in Parbhani has reached Pune. Citizens, along with political and social organizations, will gather for a large-scale “Jan Aakrosh Morcha” on January 5.
Previously, all-party protests in Beed and Parbhani districts condemned the murder of Santosh Deshmukh and demanded the death penalty for the accused.
Prominent leaders like former MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, MLA Jitendra Awhad, and MP Bajarang Sonawane, along with local legislators, participated in the protests. The demonstrators called for Minister Dhananjay Munde’s resignation and urged immediate arrests of the absconding accused.
The Jan Aakrosh Morcha in Pune will commence at Lal Mahal and conclude at the District Collector’s office. The rally aims to demand justice for both victims, emphasizing the arrest and stringent punishment of those involved in Santosh Deshmukh’s murder. Vaibhavi, the daughter of Santosh Deshmukh, will also join the protest.
In a heartfelt video appeal, Vaibhavi said, “My father was brutally murdered, and he must receive justice. I urge everyone to join us on January 5 to demand justice for our family.”
In response to the public outrage, the government has initiated special investigations into both cases. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assigned to Beed, with the CID and SIT working on the case. The Chief Minister has assured a thorough inquiry into the custodial death of Somnath Suryawanshi in Parbhani.
State leaders and ministers have also visited the families of both victims to offer condolences and assure justice.
