Pune: Illegal dumping of construction debris in an open area near Shramik Colony, adjacent to Vandevi Hill in Karvenagar, has raised serious environmental and health concerns. Residents have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take strict action against those responsible for the indiscriminate disposal of waste.
With several new construction and redevelopment projects underway in the Karvenagar area, the accumulation of construction debris has become a pressing issue. Waste materials such as cement, broken bricks, stones, and sand are being dumped along roadsides and open spaces. This not only defaces the locality but also creates a breeding ground for mosquitoes, posing a health risk to residents.
Locals report that tempos and trucks arrive late at night or during the early morning hours to dump debris illegally. Despite repeated complaints, authorities have not taken sufficient preventive measures, allowing the issue to escalate.
Speaking on the matter, local resident Santosh Waghmare emphasized the need for strict enforcement, stating, "This area falls under the jurisdiction of the Warje-Karvenagar Ward Office, and immediate action is required from the municipal health department to curb illegal dumping."
In response, Ganesh Khirid, Senior Health Inspector at the Warje-Karvenagar Ward Office, confirmed that action has been initiated against offenders. "We have seized some tempos and imposed fines on violators. Further, criminal cases will be filed against those continuing to dump construction debris illegally," he stated.
