Pune: In a bid to speed up the construction of the Katraj flyover, Pune Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale has directed the Roads and Land Acquisition Department to complete the acquisition process for pending land within four days. The delay in securing one critical piece of land has hindered the placement of girders required for the flyover.
The Katraj junction has been closed for traffic to facilitate the construction of the flyover. However, progress has been slow due to delays in land acquisition, which has worsened traffic congestion in the area. Commissioner Bhosale also held a meeting on Monday (December 16) with landowners, including those whose properties are needed for constructing the Kondhwa-side ramp.
During the meeting, the landowners agreed to hand over possession of the land in advance upon receiving guarantee letters.
Road Widening Delays Impact Commuters
The widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa road has been stalled due to pending land acquisition, leading to slow progress on ongoing work. Traffic congestion on this busy route has caused frequent accidents, resulting in the loss of lives. Central Minister Nitin Gadkari has taken note of the situation and is reviewing the project regularly.
Despite receiving ₹140 crore in funding from the government for the project, PMC's land acquisition process remains delayed. Taking cognizance of this, Commissioner Bhosale has now instructed the administration to expedite the process and secure the land immediately.
