New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal asserted on Thursday that Meta has limited access to his Instagram account. “Informal inquiries at your India office indicated that my account has been restricted within India and cannot be accessed there,” he stated on X.
He also posted a screenshot of his account’s backend, which indicated that it was "unavailable in certain locations."
He also claimed that he did not receive any reasons from the Meta office, and neither is anyone suggesting how the restrictions can be removed.
He added that every email sent had received no reply beyond a standard acknowledgment.
In closing, the former Delhi chief minister wrote, "Do not be overly subservient to our Prime Minister. Otherwise, he will permit you to operate only his personal account in India." As of publication, Meta had not issued any public response.
Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reported to have expressed regret over the circulation of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), deepfake content, and other operational failures on Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, during high-level talks with Indian officials on Wednesday.
The meetings reportedly also addressed the temporary removal or limitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first selfie video aimed at Gen Z during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led student protests. The video was briefly restricted in India by Meta-owned Facebook, but access was restored within a few hours.
