Pune: A 16-year-old orphan student from Sahyadri Institute’s Orphan Care Center, Palsathika, Ambegaon, faced a medical emergency on Friday (March 14) when he experienced severe pain due to a kidney stone, making it impossible for him to urinate. His condition caused great concern among the orphanage caretakers, as he was scheduled to appear for his history exam on Saturday (March 15), and missing it could have led to an academic setback.
After an unsuccessful attempt at Ghodegaon Rural Hospital, the boy was rushed to Manchar Sub-District Hospital, where Dr. Maruti Dadge, Dr. Priya Chavan, and the nursing staff performed an external non-surgical procedure to extract the 17-18 mm kidney stone. Their tireless efforts for 30 minutes proved successful, relieving the student of his pain and ensuring that he could sit for his exam the next morning.
Doctors revealed that had the stone not been removed using this technique, the boy would have required endoscopic surgery at Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad, followed by a two-day hospitalization, forcing him to miss his crucial exam.
However, the timely and skillful intervention by the Manchar hospital team averted this outcome, allowing the student to take his Class 10 board exam with ease.
