Pune court granted bail to Dr. Ajay Tavare in the Ruby Hall kidney transplant racket case on a bond of ₹1 lakh.
Despite bail in this case, Tavare remains in Yerwada Jail as he has not secured bail in the Kalyaninagar Porsche accident blood sample tampering case.
Tavare, then head of the organ transplant committee at Sassoon Hospital, is accused of misusing his position to approve illegal kidney transplants with fake donors and documents.
Pune, 3rd September 2025: A Pune court has granted bail to Dr. Ajay Tavare, accused in the Ruby Hall Clinic kidney transplant racket. Judicial Magistrate First Class Alok Pandey approved his release on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh with surety of the same amount.
However, Tavare will not walk free yet. He remains lodged in Yerwada Central Jail as he has not secured bail in another high-profile matter, the blood sample tampering case linked to the Kalyaninagar Porsche accident.
The kidney transplant racket came to light after a complaint by Dr. Sanjog Kadam, Deputy Director of the Health Services Board. Investigations revealed that Tavare, then Medical Superintendent of Sassoon Hospital and chairman of the regional organ transplant committee, allegedly misused his authority to approve a kidney transplant using fake documents and a bogus donor. Police say financial transactions were involved.
The case was registered at Koregaon Park police station against 17 people, including the patient, his relatives, fake donors, and doctors. Following his arrest and judicial custody, Tavare applied for bail through his lawyers Jitendra Sawant and Abhishek Bade. The court has now accepted his plea.
