Pune: A woman who falsely claimed her first husband had passed away married a cleric and, within a year, allegedly defrauded him of gold, cash, a car, and a house worth ₹14 lakh. She later married another man, leading to a case being filed against her.
A 59-year-old cleric from Kondhwa lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the woman, identified as Aliya. The incidents occurred between August 31, 2023, and December 15, 2024, in Kondhwa.
According to the police, the complainant is a cleric at a madrasa. The accused woman falsely claimed that her first husband had died and married him with the intention of financial exploitation. Over the course of a year, she regularly traveled between Pune and Palghar and allegedly took gold, cash, a car, and a house from the complainant, amounting to ₹14 lakh in total.
When confronted about marrying another man, the woman reportedly verbally abused the complainant and threatened to kill him. Assistant Police Inspector Thorat is investigating the case.
Recently, in another incident reported, a 72-year-old divorcee, who had registered on a matrimonial website, was lured into a trap by cybercriminals who eventually extorted ₹72,000 by threatening him with legal action and the release of an obscene video.
