Pune, 4th December 2024: The Yerawada police have registered a case against an army officer for allegedly defrauding another officer of ₹37 lakh under the pretense of facilitating a land purchase in Konkan.
The accused, identified as Lieutenant Colonel D.S. Patil (age 58), is alleged to have promised Lieutenant Colonel Pratap Rajneesh Singh (age 49) assistance in acquiring land, but failed to fulfill the promise or refund the money.
According to the complaint filed by Singh, currently posted in Odisha, the incident dates back to the period between 2015 and 2018, when Singh was stationed at Bombay Sappers in Khadki.
During this time, Singh and Patil became acquainted, and Patil assured Singh that he could help purchase land in Konkan. Based on this assurance, Singh transferred ₹37 lakh to Patil’s bank account.
After the funds were transferred, Patil neither facilitated the land purchase nor returned the money despite repeated demands. Feeling deceived, Singh filed a complaint with the Yerawada police.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Assistant Police Inspector Gauri Zore is leading the investigation.
