Pune: Winter in Pune has taken an uncharacteristic turn as temperatures soared close to 35°C, setting a record high for the season.
On Saturday (December 7), Koregaon Park in Pune reported a maximum temperature of 34.8°C, while Nashik recorded the state's lowest minimum temperature at 16.6°C.
The unusual weather is attributed to ongoing climate changes, which have led to a significant increase in maximum and minimum temperatures across Maharashtra.
For the past week, the state has experienced fluctuating weather conditions, with a mix of sunshine, cloud cover, and sporadic rainfall.
Some districts in Central Maharashtra, Konkan-Goa, Marathwada, and Vidarbha reported light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
In the last 24 hours, light rain occurred in parts of these regions. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a dry spell over the next two days, with a gradual decline in both maximum and minimum temperatures expected, signaling the potential return of cooler winter weather.
In Pune, the minimum temperature has dropped by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the last 24 hours, with temperatures falling from over 18°C to as low as 6°C in some areas.
Residents experienced mild fog during the morning hours on Saturday, which gave way to alternating sunny and cloudy conditions throughout the day.
The IMD’s predictions of cooler weather have brought hope for the return of winter chills.
