
Pune: In a shocking incident in the Sutardara area of Kothrud, a man allegedly tried to burn down his in-laws’ house following a dispute with his wife, who had left their marital home.
The Kothrud Police have registered a case against the accused, Sahil Hanumant Halande (25), a resident of Bhugaon in Mulshi Taluka.
As per police reports, the accused and his wife Tejal had a heated argument on Wednesday night, after which Tejal left for her maternal home in Kothrud.
Unwilling to accept her departure, Sahil followed her to her mother’s house in the Sutardara locality.
Upon arrival, Sahil issued a chilling threat to his wife, stating, "If you don’t return home immediately, I will burn down your mother’s house."
He then barged into the house, verbally abused the occupants, and proceeded to pour a flammable liquid before setting it alight. The fire caused damage to household items, but no injuries were reported.
Local authorities were alerted to the incident and rushed to the scene to take stock of the situation. Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vitthal Dabde, and Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane, visited the site.
The accused, Sahil Halande, fled the scene following the incident. Police have launched a search operation to apprehend him, with Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Pawar heading the investigation.
