Pune: A severe explosion rocked the Alkyl Amines Chemicals Limited factory in the industrial area of Kurkumbh, Daund taluka, in the early hours of Saturday, December 28. One worker sustained critical burn injuries in the incident, while the total number of affected workers remains unclear.

The injured worker has been identified as 23-year-old Sagar Pralhad Ranabhaware, a resident of Newasa, District Ahilyanagar. Following first-aid treatment in Daund, he was transferred to Pune for advanced medical care.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, and an investigation is underway. Senior officials, including Deputy Director of the Industrial Safety and Health Department Akhil Ghogare, Safety Officer Akhush Kharade, Daund Police Inspector Gopal Pawar, and Assistant Police Inspector Nagnath Patil, inspected the site to assess the situation and oversee the inquiry.

In September 2024, a tragic accident had occurred at India Glass Solutions, a factory in Yewalewadi area that supplies glass for construction projects across Pune.

A truck carrying large, heavy glass sheets had arrived at the factory. While the workers were in the process of unloading the glass, a strap holding the glass pieces snapped, causing over two tons of glass to fall onto the workers. The factory owner and five others have been charged with culpable homicide.
