Lawyer Charged for Allegedly Defrauding ₹5.34 Lakh in Flat Purchase Case
Pune: Bharti Vidyapeeth Police have registered a case against Advocate Amol Anantrao Patil for deceiving a man who sought legal assistance in purchasing a flat.
The complainant, 62-year-old Farukh Mehboob Shaikh, claims that Patil took ₹5.34 lakh in exchange for providing legal services related to the property purchase, but failed to deliver on his promises.
The incident dates back to April 8, 2024, in the Chaitraban Lake Town area. According to the complaint filed at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station, Shaikh was in the process of purchasing a residential flat and needed legal help to ensure all the required formalities were completed.
He trusted Patil, a practicing lawyer, to handle key legal tasks, including preparing a search report and drafting the sale deed. Believing that Patil would manage these responsibilities, Shaikh transferred a substantial sum of ₹5.34 lakh to the lawyer.
However, despite receiving the payment, Patil did not fulfill any of the promised services. When Shaikh demanded the return of his money, Patil allegedly refused, prompting Shaikh to approach the police.
The Bharti Vidyapeeth Police have now filed a case against Patil for cheating and breach of trust. Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Suresh Shinde, who is leading the investigation, has stated that further inquiries are being conducted to gather evidence and determine the full extent of the fraud.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to determine whether additional individuals may have been similarly deceived by Patil.
