Pune: The Forest Department has announced the closure of popular tourist attractions Lion’s Point and Tiger’s Point on December 31 and January 1. These sites, known for their scenic beauty, draw large crowds, especially during the New Year. The decision aims to prevent overcrowding and ensure the safety of visitors, forest areas, and wildlife.
The Wadgaon Maval Forest Range issued the orders, emphasizing that increased patrolling will be undertaken during these days. Forest guards and officers will be stationed at strategic locations to monitor activities and address any violations.
New Year Celebrations with Restrictions
The Lonavala police have also outlined strict guidelines to manage the anticipated influx of tourists. Those caught consuming alcohol in public, engaging in unruly behavior, or driving under the influence will face legal action. Tourists are advised to prioritize safety and avoid creating disturbances.
Traffic and Accommodation Strain
With the New Year approaching, Lonavala and Khandala have seen a surge in visitors, leading to full occupancy in hotels, resorts, and private villas. Popular spots such as Bhushi Dam, Lonavala Lake, Tungarli Lake, Rajmachi, and Pavana Dam have reported heavy footfall.
This influx has strained the traffic system, prompting authorities to warn against reckless driving and deploy additional personnel to manage the situation.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rajendra Mayne reiterated that public drunkenness and negligent driving will not be tolerated. Additional police forces have been assigned to maintain law and order and ensure a safe environment for all.
