Pune: A fatal accident at Pasarni Ghat in Mahabaleshwar claimed the lives of two young men from Loni Kalbhor, Pune, while two others sustained critical injuries. The accident occurred when their vehicle, a Ford Endeavour, lost control due to high speed and plunged 100 meters down a valley.

Victims Identified, Two in Critical Condition

According to police reports, the deceased have been identified as:

  • Akshay Mhasku Kalbhor (26)

  • Saurabh Jalindar Kalbhor (26)

The injured, who were immediately rushed to a hospital in Wai, are:

  • Vaibhav Kalbhor (24)

  • Bajrang Parvatrao Kalbhor (35)

Doctors at Wai hospital have stated that the condition of both injured individuals is critical.

The four friends from Loni Kalbhor had gone on a weekend trip to Mahabaleshwar and were returning home when the accident occurred. While descending the steep and winding Pasarni Ghat, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plummet into a deep valley.

Local villagers immediately alerted the police, and a rescue operation was launched by the Wai police. The accident site was challenging to access due to the steep terrain, requiring the assistance of cranes and specialized rescue teams to retrieve the victims.

Authorities Urged to Improve Road Safety

The Pasarni Ghat stretch on the Mahabaleshwar-Wai route has witnessed multiple accidents in recent years, primarily due to its sharp curves and steep slopes. Local residents and commuters have long demanded barricades and enhanced safety measures, but authorities have yet to take effective action.
