Pune, 3rd December 2024: Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a step forward in its metro expansion plans by submitting a proposal for the construction of an underground metro station at Balajinagar to the Standing Committee.
The proposed station is part of the extended metro route from Katraj to Swargate, which recently received approval from the central government.
The Katraj-to-Swargate metro line, covering approximately 5.40 km, originally included three stations: Swargate, Gultekdi, and Padmavati.
A fourth station at Katraj was later added, bringing the total project cost to an estimated ₹2,954 crore. As part of its financial commitment, PMC is set to contribute 15% of the cost (₹485 crore) and provide municipal land worth ₹248 crore for the project.
However, the addition of a proposed station at Balajinagar has increased the project’s financial requirements. During discussions, PMC clarified that it would not shoulder the extra cost of the new station.
MahaMetro agreed to fully finance the construction and related expenses for the Balajinagar station.
The PMC has now tabled a proposal for in-principle approval of the additional station, with the financial burden solely on MahaMetro, to the Standing Committee. If approved, this move will pave the way for enhanced connectivity on the extended metro route.
