
Pune: Minister of Marketing and Protocol Jaykumar Rawal announced plans to establish a world-class MahaMumbai Terminal Market to enhance the marketing and sale of agricultural produce.
The market will feature state-of-the-art facilities and be connected via air, road, and sea routes. The minister emphasized the importance of ensuring fair and reasonable pricing for agricultural goods, highlighting it as a cornerstone of marketing laws.
On Thursday, January 9, Minister Rawal visited the Directorate of Marketing to review ongoing operations and interact with officials. During the meeting, Marketing Director Vikas Rasal, Deputy Directors R.S. Darade and Sneha Joshi, and Assistant Directors Mohan Nimbalkar and Ravindra Gosavi were present. The minister provided guidance on various issues, including improving facilities and resolving the challenges faced by private market committees.
State-Level Conference and Market Committees
Minister Rawal proposed organizing a state-level conference to address the issues and demands of cooperative consumer organizations. He also stressed the need for the establishment of well-equipped market committees and the implementation of time-bound programs to address difficulties faced by private market committees.
Preventing Farmer Exploitation
To safeguard farmers from exploitation by intermediaries and improve the efficiency of marketing processes, Rawal directed the Directorate of Marketing to adopt robust and proactive measures. He urged the department to stay abreast of global developments and implement immediate, positive reforms in their operations to prioritize farmer welfare.
During the meeting, Marketing Director Vikas Rasal provided a comprehensive overview of the department's initiatives and programs. Senior officials and staff of the Directorate of Marketing were also present to discuss strategies for improving the sector.
