Pune: The Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad convened a special general meeting on Saturday (December 28) to approve a constitutional amendment proposal. However, the proposal was passed without any discussion, leading to chaos and protests from members.

The meeting, presided over by President Dr. Raosaheb Kasbe, aimed to introduce key amendments, including abolishing the Executive Chairman position, empowering the President as the supreme authority, and other changes such as appointing a student representative to the Executive Board, redistributing funds to branches, and increasing Vice Presidents to four. Despite promises of prior discussion, the proposal was approved via voice vote amid objections from several members.

The meeting saw heated arguments after Treasurer Vinod Kulkarni made controversial remarks about attendees, referring to some as “non-member heads.” Lifetime member Vinayak Ambekar strongly opposed the remark, demanding a retraction and accusing the officials of inappropriate behavior. The situation escalated, requiring intervention from others to restore order.

Ambekar further alleged that the meeting was conducted in violation of the Parishad’s constitution, as the responsibility of presiding over such meetings lies with the Chief Executive Officer, not the treasurer. He also criticized the officials for failing to verify attendees’ membership status.
