Bhiwandi building collapse: Death tally climbs to 35

Mumbai: The overnight death tally in the building collapse in Bhiwandi town rose to 35 with more bodies recovered from the debris even as the search for more victims continues, officials said here on Wednesday.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams at the spot are in the rescue mission from Tuesday with the help of canine team present at the spot too.

Hindustan Times quoted Ashish Kumar, deputy commandant, NDRF saying, “Relatives at the spot are claiming there are 8-10 people still trapped inside. We are searching accordingly. The ongoing rain is affecting the operations as we are trying to enter deep into the rubbles and pull out those trapped in the first floor and ground floor of the building.”

The three-storey residential building in the Bhiwandi area collapsed at the wee hours of Monday while most residents were asleep. More than 60 people were estimated to be in the building at the time.
