Coronavirus Thane: Complete lockdown for 10 days from July 2

Thane City Police stated that a complete lockdown in the city will be mandatory for 10 days beginning July 2 amid the rising coronavirus cases.

Thane City Police tweeted, "A complete lockdown will be announced in Thane for the next 10 days from July 2. A notification in this regard will be issued soon.”

Only essential services will be permitted in these areas. Essential services in these areas will function only between 9 am to 5 pm and travelling will be prohibited except for an emergency. The decision to re-impose a city-wide lockdown was taken after a meeting between Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and police officials on Monday.

Thane district is the major contributor of COVID-19 in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. As per the Thane civic body, on Sunday coronavirus cases penetrating the 30,000-mark in Thane and deaths touching 1,000. Thane city has reported 8,168 coronavirus positive cases, including 277 deaths, to date.

Though the recovery rate in Thane district is 48.70 per cent while the mortality rate is 3.32 per cent of cases are rising with a rapid speed. Also, Maharashtra Health Minister Health Rajesh Tope has ordered the district and civic administrations to upsurge detection, testing and treatment with the participation of the local people.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra government on Monday declared that the state-wide lockdown will be extended till July 31. The current lockdown was to end on Tuesday while Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in an address to the state on Sunday ruled out lifting the lockdown from June 30.
