Pune, 2nd October 2026: Eight students from Winners Academy, a coaching institute in Alandi, drowned at Diveagar beach in Raigad district on Thursday. The students had gone swimming in the sea during an educational trip when the tragedy occurred. Preliminary information suggests that they misjudged the sea conditions and were swept into deep water.

The trip was organised by Amar Adak, head of Winners Academy, which has been operating in Ward No. 4 of Alandi for the past two years. A total of 42 students, including 17 girls and 25 boys, had joined the trip to Diveagar, a popular tourist destination in Shrivardhan taluka of Raigad district.

Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched with the help of Mahakali Water Sports staff, local residents and tourists. Despite their efforts, all eight students lost their lives. Rescuers eventually recovered the bodies of all eight victims from the sea.

The bodies were subsequently taken to the Primary Health Centre in Borli Panchatan for further procedures. The incident triggered a large gathering at the beach, while news of the deaths spread across Alandi and nearby villages.

The eight deceased students have been identified as:

  • Tanmay Dattatray Wahile – Alandi-Markal Road, Alandi

  • Sumit Bharat Ahire – Near Avari Hospital, Alandi

  • Pranav Ramdas Bansode – Wadgaon Road, near Priyadarshini School, Alandi

  • Kaivalya Satish Wasankar – Kale Colony, Paradise Society, Alandi

  • Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar – Kelgaon

  • Rajveer Yuvraj Wahile – Kelgaon

  • Yash Kiran Wankhede – Jalaram Park, Charholi Khurd

  • Kaustubh Sandeep Daund – God's County, Charholi Khurd

The tragedy sent shockwaves through Alandi, Kelgaon and Charholi Khurd, where the deceased students lived. News of the incident emerged around 5 pm on Thursday, leaving families and residents in deep grief.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the three villages, with residents mourning the deaths of the eight students who had gone on the educational trip.
