Pune: Weather conditions are favourable for pre-monsoon showers in Maharashtra. As a result of this, Nanded and Jalna districts in Marathwada and Amravati district in Vidarbha on Tuesday reported rainfall, accompanied by a storm.
IMD has predicted that rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning, is likely to occur in Konkan, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. The weather bureau issued an alert of a hail storm in Madhya Maharashtra. It also forecasts fluctuations in temperature.
Clouds gathering over the State is an indication of the pre-monsoon rain. It rained in Jafrabad tehsil of Jalna district on Tuesday. At the same time, hail storm occurred in Ardhapur tehsil of Nanded district, which damaged the turmeric crop.
The sky was cloudy at many places in Vidarbha and Marathwada while it was partially cloudy over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra.
Temperature fluctuation continued on Tuesday in the State. Temperatures recorded at various places in the State for 24 hours till Tuesday morning were as follows: The highest temperature in the State was recorded 42.6 degrees Celsius in Vidarbha in Akola.
Mercury soared above 40 degrees Celsius at Jalgaon, Dhule, Solapur, Parbhani, Bhrahmapuri, Chandrapur and Washim. It was below 40 degrees Celsius in the remaining parts of the State.
Sweltering heat would continue even though the temperature might decrease a bit. A hail storm is likely to hit Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur districts in central Maharashtra.
Rainfall accompanied by storm is likely to occur in Pune, Ahmednagar districts and in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg districts in Konkan; Osmanabad, Beed, Latur, Parbhani, Nanded, Hingoli districts of Marathwada; Buldana, Washim, Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts of Vidarbha.
The highest maximum temperature in degrees Celsius at various places in the State in 24 hours till Tuesday morning was as follows: Pune 38, Jalgaon 41.4, Dhule 40, Kolhapur 36.1, Mahabaleshwar 31.6, Malegaon 38.2, Nashik 36.4, Niphad 36.8, Solapur 42.1 and Ratnagiri 35.2.
LOW-PRESSURE AREA
Conditions are favourable for a low-pressure area south of Bay of Bengal. It is likely to develop into a low-pressure area on Thursday. Hence, heavy rainfall is predicted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Myanmar. The rough sea with high tide and winds at 50-70 kmph is predicted in the Bay of Bengal till May 3. The fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea during this period.
