Illegal MTP kits seized in Satara

Pune: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confiscated illegal Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits from Satara recently. FDA has also filed a First Information Report (FIR) after which Satara Police has traced the accused.

Speaking about the MTP kits, VA Javadekar, Joint Commissioner of Drugs, FDA, Pune, said that MTP kit is a scheduled drug that cannot be sold without a prescription from an authorised doctor.

“Our Satara team found these kits and they were traced back to the company, which is based in another state. Prima facie, the company has denied that the drug belongs to them. Hence, there are chances that the drug is spurious,” said Javadekar.

Officials at the FDA noted that two kits of Caam Kit Master were confiscated and 16 kits of Gestapro Kit Master and the company is Synoken Pharmaceuticals Limited from Haridwar. Out of 16, eight kits were taken as sample and eight were sent for further testing.

Javdekar further added that the drug will be taken back to the company so that the company inspects that the drug form in terms of colour, solidity and other factors.

“Further, the drug will be checked for its composition by the company as well to see if they are spurious,” said Javadekar.
