The much anticipated Marathi film starring Mukta Barve, Sukanya Kulkarni, and Sarang Sathe has been creating a lot of buzz online. The teaser and the poster are receiving loads of love from the audience. The two- two-minute-thirty-second clip has mesmerized people captivating their attention and leaving them wanting to know more. The clip shows a heartwarming equation between a maid and the lady of the house.

The movie is all set to be released in Pune on the 1st of May, which also happens to be Maharashtra Day.

Swapnil Joshi, one of the powerhouses behind Marathi television hits such as Krishna and Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta, along with his stellar performances in blockbuster films like Duniyadari and Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai, is all set to shine in his new role as a producer with this exciting venture.

The creators of the film promise a fun-filled journey into the quirky world of women’s experiences in the file, Nach Ga Ghuma- it was originally sung by Shakuntala Jadhav as a part of a music album in 2005. Nach Ga Guma means- dance maid, the line that follows is Kashi Mi Nachu meaning how can I dance? The movie is a perfect example where wit meets emotions to celebrate the essence of womanhood.

Women in Pune usually perform these during Magalagaurs; a celebration for womanhood from Konkan to Vidarbha when the Shravan showers pour in Maharashtra, women gear up for Managalagaur- a ritual made up of song, dance, and amusing games. Songs like Nach Ga Ghuma can be heard in every Marathi household at this time of the year.

Pointing at the movie, its director Prakash Mokashi said, “ It is a movie about womanhood and the practices and customs related to it. The movie shows the minute details a woman faces in her daily life along with the mighty fights she throws back.

Marathi Industry in recent times has given the world some great cinema, the youth are captivated by the experimental stories brought by the Marathi creators and are paving the way for them to grow on social media. 93 Marathi movies were released in the year 2023 out of which Jhimma and Baipan Bhaar Deva caused a shake at the box-office, apparently booth the movies closely looked at the problems faced by women at several stages of life.

The experimental cinema coming right out of the lens of Marathi creators is catching the youth’s attention and conscience. Movies like Fandry, The Disciple, Court, Ekda Kay Zala, Sairat, and olad classics like Jogwa have surely brought out a message to the people winning hearts and credit.

The Marathi Movie Industry hit me with the realization that regional movies of this state have far superseded the art of this story-telling. The industry was always churning something here and there but it caught everybody’s eye with the booming success of Sairaat. It paved a way for realistic story telling.

Movies like Fandry , Court and Schwass, they dont enjoy the privileges of a huge starcast, what they have is raw, simple, straightforward and truthful plots. Such movies are not larger than life but are stories of people like you and I.

Jogwa a film that was released in 2009, Upendra Limaye won a National Award for his performance as a "Jogta" in this film that deals with the age-old devadasi system and has a brilliant soundtrack.
