Isolated heavy rain is likely over Maharashtra and Goa from Sunday to Thursday
Pune: Several places in Maharashtra, including Pune, Aurangabad, Solapur witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday (in afternoon) amid moisture incursion and high heat load. These showers are expected to be the last leg of monsoon this season. Isolated heavy rain is likely over Maharashtra and Goa from Sunday to Thursday. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is predicted over coastal Maharashtra and Goa on Monday.
Sudden downpour along with thunderstorm on Saturday took Punekars by surprise. The city witnessed 11.6 mm rainfall in less than two hours, resulting waterlogging in many parts.
The low pressure produces fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorm with isolated heavy rain is expected likely in Southern India and adjoining Central India and Western India from Sunday to Thursday. The weather department said, “With the gradual west northwestward movement of the depression, interior Maharashtra including Marathwada, Vidarbha and parts of Madhya Maharashtra rainfall activity is expected to increase further during next 3-4 days. Gradual increase over Konkan frm 14th.”
The department further stated, “Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning & moderate to intense spells very likely to occur in the districts of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Kolhapur and Sholapur during next 3-4 hrs. Activity continuing over parts of Madhya Maharashtra & Marathwada.”
The weather department also said that the low pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal will strengthen into a depression by Sunday and as this system moves further, more rain is forecast over parts of Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Konkan during next week.
